After THE PLAYERS Championship and Arnold Palmer’s Invitation, PGA Tour heads to Florida’s East coast at the treacherous Copperhead Course for the Valspar Championship, where some of the world’s top-ranked golfers will battle.
Sam Burns aims to rewrite the history book by becoming the first player to win the Valspar Championship for three consecutive years. However, he will face stiff competition from experienced players such as Justin Thomas, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, Jordan Spieth, and Keegan Bradley.
The presence of four players from the world’s top-15 list means the tournament will be highly competitive – Justin Thomas (No.9), Fitzpatrick (12), Sam Burns (14), and Jordan Spieth (15).
The tournament runs from 16th – 19th March 2023 at Copperhead Course, Innisbrook Resort, Palm Habor. It’s part of the annual FedEx Cup competition.
Justin Thomas is expected to shine, like Jordan Spieth, who has won the Major Championship three times. Spieth will come back at Valspar Championship after missing the last five years.
Justin enters the tournament as a 10/1 favourite, followed by Jordan Spieth at 12/1, Sam Burns at 15/1, and Matthew Fitzpatrick at 18/1 on the PGA board odds.
The players who could win it
Justin Thomas expected to shine
Thomas has finished in the top-25 in his last six outings and was 5th at the Honda Classics. He has been on an upward trajectory in the last two months, proving he can beat the favourites to become the best. This will be his first start at the Valspar Championship.
Sam Burns is among the favourites… again
The two-time defending champion started the year in high gear finishing in top-11 in two of his first three appearances. However, the recent weeks have not benefited Burns, as he missed the cut in his last three events. He was in the 35th position at last week’s The Players Championship.
Jordan Spieth
Jordan charged at the final round at the Arnold Palmer Invitation last week. He hopes to maintain excellent form this week and win the Valspar Championship.
Tommy Fleetwood
Fleetwood was doing very fine at the Players Championship until he faltered in the final round on Sunday, shooting 4-over par. He tied at 16th in his debut Valspar Championship last year and has shown that the best is yet to come as he pushes for a place in the Ryder Cup team.
Keegan Bradley
In his last five outings this season, Bradley has finished top-10 two times, once in the top 20, and missed the cut twice, including the Players Championship. He will be among the favourites to bag the Valspar title this weekend.
Matthew Fitzpatrick
Matthew tied for 5th in last year’s edition of the Valspar Championship, and you can bet on him for a top-20 finish if not the winner. He performs well under challenging courses, and Copperhead is one of them.
Justin Rose
Justin will make a strong run at the title, thanks to his long experience. He has 11 PGA Tour titles, including AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
