After the US Open, where Wyndham Clark made history by winning the title, the PGA Tour heads to New England, Connecticut, for the Travelers Championship. The event has attracted big names thanks to an improved purse, which has elevated its status as one of the golfers’ favourite destinations.

The recently released field includes the top eight on the Official Golf World Ranking, including Jon Rahm, Rory Mcllroy, Viktor Hovland, and Scottie Scheffler, who will battle it for the ultimate prize.

Defending champion Xander Schauffele will aim to lift his seventh PGA Tour title. Other big names committed to play at the event include Matt Fitzpatrick, Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Thomas, Adam Scott, Max Homa, Tony Finau, and Xander’s friend, Patrick Cantlay.

Being the biggest annual golfing event in Connecticut, the 2023 Travelers Championship will attract huge crowds as fans seek to glimpse the golfing world’s top names in action.

TPC River Highlands

The course is familiar territory for most golfers, having hosted the Travelers Championship since 1984. We can confidently refer to the Travelers Championship as the ‘People’s Championship’ thanks to the massive attendance witnessed every year.

The high number of fans brings a stadium atmosphere, making for an exhilarating viewing experience.

Key players to watch out for

Even though more than 100 players will compete in the 2023 Travelers Championship, there are some key players that fans will be looking out for. These are some of the players with the highest winning odds;

Patrick Cantlay

Cantlay is an eight-time PGA champion and is likely to lift the title this weekend. He hasn’t won any PGA title this season even after making the cut 14 times in the 15 games he has participated in. It’s safe to say this has not been his best season by any means, as he has only managed to be in the top 10 once in his last four tournaments. The last time his rank was in the top five was in April this year, showing that he is struggling to keep pace with other elite golfers.

Max Homa

Max Homa looks like a good bet for anyone who wants to win some good money in the Travelers Championship. Even though he missed the cut in last week’s US Open, he has made the cut 14 times out of the 17 tournaments. The world’s No. 9 has been one of the best putters this season.

Scottie Scheffler

The Texan history at the Travelers Championship has been poor though he has shown improvement with every trip to the event. He finished T13 in the 2022 edition, his career’s best at the competition.

Scheffler was third at the U.S. Open, his fifth consecutive top-five making him a strong favourite for the crown.

Rory Mcllroy

Despite the heartbreak at the US Open at the weekend, Mcllroy is still among the strongest contenders for the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands, Connecticut. He will be itching for victory after falling short of another major trophy in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Mcllroy has not been a religious participant at the Travelers Championship but has recorded impressive performances in his last three appearances – Top-19, Top-11, and Top-12.

Tom Kim

The world’s No. 4 is a strong contender based on how his balls love finding the fairway. This strong iron-player has never played in the Travelers Championship but might pull a surprise. He recorded a top-10 finish in last week’s U. Open.
