After the Rocket Mortgage Classic won by Rickie Fowler, the PGA Tour heads to Silvis, Illinois, for the 2023 John Deere Classic. J.T Poston led from the beginning to the end of last year’s edition to become the first player to do so in 30 years and record his second PGA Tour title.

Poston hopes to defend the title and claim his third PGA Tour career win. However, considering his recent unimpressive form, he understands it will be a tall order. He hasn’t registered a T20 finish since March.

Players to watch

Golf fans know that anything can happen on the course. These are some of the most promising players on the 2023 John Deere Classic;

Denny McCarthy (14/1)

The ex-Virginia Cavalier is the favourite to win the 2023 John Deere Classic. McCarthy has finished T20 at three consecutive designated events, including a playoff loss to Viktor Hovland at the Memorial Tournament and Top7 at the Travelers Championship.

He had a T6 finish at the 2022 John Deere Classic, where he will be appearing for the fifth time, making him one of the strongest contenders.

Russel Henley (14/1)

The former Georgia Bulldog is the co-favourite to win this year’s edition of John Deere Classic. Henley has enjoyed good form in recent outings. He has finished T20 in the last eight of the nine starts, including top-19 at the Travelers Championship.

Henley has played three times at the John Deere Classic, finishing no lower than T27, including a runner-up in 2019.

Cameron Young (14/)

The Wake Forest product is the highest-ranked player in the field at 19th in the Official World Golf Ranking. He will look for momentum at the TPC Deere Run after recording a poor run in the recent past, where he has finished below the top 30 in all the starts since the Masters. Young will debut at the John Deere Classic and hopes to do it with a win.

Adam Hadwin and Ludvig Aberg complete the list of top-5 favourites to win the 2023 John Deere Classic. Ludvig Aberg led in the stroke gained off the tee at the Weekend’s Rocket Mortgage Classics and has made the cut in all of his five PGA Tour starts this season. He is debuting at the John Deere Classics and a first T20 career finish.

TPC Deere Run

The venue is a par-71 playing at 7,289 yards during this year’s John Deere Classic enabling golfers to play low on this field. D.A. Weibring designed TPC Deere Run in 1999 on a previously-Arabian horse farm plot.

Over 40% of approach shots at this field have come within 150 yards at each of the last three editions of the John Deere Classics. The winning scores were under-21 in 2022 and under-19 in 2021 on this course, which is significantly elevated, unlike the last week’s Detroit Golf Club – Tour’s flattest course.
